Black-clad gunmen attacked at five sites in the centre of the city and at the Stade de France, in the north at around 9.30pm local time.
The gunmen shouted "Allahu akbar" as they attacked. There was no claim of responsibility from Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, despite much speculation that the group was involved.
One of the gunmen said "this is for Syria".
The terrorists threw grenades, fired AK-47 assault rifles and then blew themselves up - seven out of the eight gunmen were killed in suicide attacks, while the eighth was shot by police.
The worst attack came at the Bataclan theatre where 112 people were reported to have been killed as they waited for a rock concert to begin.
