Auckland Attractions – places to visit

Auckland is a great city which offers wide range various attractions: beaches beautiful with sparkling waters, iconic volcanoes and lush rainforests and a lot of other places with rich culture and history.

The Auckland Domain is Auckland

The Auckland Domain is Auckland's oldest park.

Auckland, Mission Bay beach.
Mission Bay is the most accessible urban beach from downtown Auckland – and one of the region’s most popular.

Mission Bay combines a white sand beach with grassy areas and a magnificent fountain, all just across the road from a vibrant strip of cafés, restaurants and bars.

The Auckland Civic Theatre at night.
The Auckland Civic Theatre is a large heritage theatre seating 2,378 people in central Auckland, New Zealand. First opened on 20 December 1929, it was reopened in 2000 after a major renovation and conservation effort.
The builders cut many corners but nevertheless constructed an impressive example of the new ‘atmospheric theatres’, the opulently decorated picture palaces that enjoyed a brief heyday from the late 1920s. New Zealand built three: Dunedin’s St James, Christchurch’s Regent and the Civic, with its Moorish and Hindu arches, pierced screens, minarets and balconies, all overarched by a twinkling ‘sky’. Fittingly for the ‘Queen City’, the Civic’s interior is a high-camp riot, a Pierre et Gilles photograph come to life. In 1987 the Historic Places Trust saved the building, which reverted to council control eight years later. Early in 2000 it emerged from a major council-funded facelift, our last proper atmospheric theatre.
