At Wednesday 12 of August, Auckland was set on two days of coronavirus alert level 3 lockdown, with only local and essential travel permitted in the region.

New Zealand’s most populated city was moved into alert level 3 after four members of one family tested positive for Covid-19.
Thirteen new cases were then identified on Thursday. Three are employees of Americold, where one of the original cases works, and seven are their family members.

Seven new confirmed cases were reported on Saturday. Six are linked to the known cluster, and the other is still being investigated.

There are now 56 active cases in New Zealand, 35 of which have been clearly linked to the cluster.

Auckland will remain in level 3 and the rest of the country in level 2 until August 26.

Important information for people in the Auckland region.

• Travel in and out of Auckland will be restricted to essential travel only, with roadblocks in place
• Work from home unless you are an essential worker
• All schools and childcare facilities will be closed except for children of essential service workers.
• All public facilities, bars, restaurants and businesses should close.
• Supermarkets, pharmacies, and petrol stations remain open – shop as normal. Food delivery will be available
• Keep a 2 metre physical distance and wear a mask when in public when you can’t distance
• Stay home if you’re sick, wash your hands, cough or sneeze into your elbow, clean surfaces
• Keep a record of where you have been, use the NZ COVID app
• If you have cold or flu like symptoms call your GP or Health line to book a free COVID-19 test, and get tested if asked
• The latest information can be found on covid19.govt.nz or the Unite Against Covid social media channels



Prevention – how to protect yourself and others.

• Cough or sneeze into your elbow or by covering your mouth and nose with tissues.
• Put used tissues in the bin or a bag immediately.
• Wash your hands with soap and water often (for at least 20 seconds).
• Try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell.
• Don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean.
• Avoid personal contact, such as kissing, sharing cups or food with sick people.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects, such as doorknobs.
• Stay home if you feel unwell.
• Call Government Health Line 0800 358 5453 if you have any symptoms and have been to any countries or territories of concern or have been in close contact with someone confirmed with COVID-19.

Exercise and recreation under alert level 3 (Source: Auckland Council).

• Playgrounds, skate parks, cycle parks and exercise equipment are closed
• Public toilets are closed
• Low-risk recreation activities in your local area allowed, for example a walk or a run, a swim at the beach or a day walk.
• Regional parks are open for exercise. Tramping and mountain biking is available for experienced users that know the trails. Visitor centres are closed. Some toilets and all facilities are closed. There is no vehicle access (walk-in is OK). Campground, baches and lodges are closed.
• Recreational fishing is allowed from public conservation land as long as you stay in your local area.
• Boating, yachting and any team sports or training are not allowed.
• You can do recreational activities by yourself or with people from your bubble.
Covid-19 testing is free across Auckland’s general practices, urgent care clinics and 17 community testing centres.
Anyone experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms should seek to get tested.
