Dennis Avner, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, became famous throughout the world as the man-tiger or Crouching Tiger, is found dead at his home in the U.S. city of Tonopah, Nevada.
He spent years undergoing body modifications including whiskers, ears and a mechanical tail. Basically he spent years trying to make himself look like a tiger. He had at least 14 operations trying to morph himself into a feline, complete with whiskers, ears and a mechanical tail.
He made surgery operations to split his top lip and make his ears pointed, silicone cheek and forehead implants, tooth filing and tattoos.
The 54-year-old was found dead his home in Tonopah, Nevada, on November 5. Friends, who called him ‘as troubled as he was remarkable’, believe he killed himself.
He is descended from American Indians, his Indian name was ‘Stalking Cat.’
On his website he wrote: “I am Huron and following a very old tradition have transformed myself into a tiger’.
Avner worked as a computer programmer. He is well known by numerous often participations at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! events around the world and numerous TV shows.
