New pope elected. Part III
New pope elected on 03 of March 2013 - white smoke poured from the chimney where the cardinals had gathered. Thus we knew they had elected a pope who will be leader of the world's 1.2-billion Catholics.
The new pope is from Buenos Aires in Argentina and he took the name Francis.
This was after St. Francis of Assisi, who had built up the Church centuries ago by embracing poverty and poor people. So he is the first non-European pope.
The new pope instead of offering the traditional blessing to the huge crowds in the square and beyond, he bowed to them and asked them to bless him! Only then did he give his blessing to the people. The crowds — primarily young and from all over the world — roared their approval.
