Recently the British Antarctic Survey has created a new exclusive map of the surface of Antarctica. At the map the continent presented without a thick layer of ice aged more than 30 million years.
The project, called BedMap2, was organized to determine the amount of accumulated ice on Antarctica, as well as to consider possible options for its gradual melting. Researchers are trying to find out how much can increase the level of the oceans in the case of global warming and the release of huge amounts of water as the ice of Antarctica, and the glaciers of the other continents.
So, Antarctica was scanned all the currently existing means of remote sensing. Some satellites, aerial photography and ground-based expeditions used to create the map.
