What a game by Dutch players!
This is the biggest defeat which ever occurred with defending champion. Who expected such a score: Spain 1 Holland 5?
Interestingly that for the first 44 minutes Spanish team looked pretty confident.
But at the 44’, Van Persie equalized with a stunning header and the Dutch changed the game pattern in the second half.
So about the goals:
Costa is brought down inside the penalty area. At first viewing It looks a definite penalty - Vlaar caught his trailing leg. The replay for the penalty incident shows that the foul on Costa was not quite as definitive as looked at first glance. The contact was pretty minimal and Costa went to ground, which was a bit odd as his next move would have been a shot on goal.
Xabi Alonso prepares to take the penalty shoot.
Spain 1 Holland 0 (Alonso 26)
Cillessen moved at the right way: low to his right, but Alonso's penalty is placed perfectly in the corner and Spain have the lead.
Spain 1 Holland 1 (Van Persie 44)
What a goal by Robin van Persie! Daley Blind performed a long, crossfield ball towards the edge of the Spain box. Van Persie throws himself at it and somehow arcs a perfect diving header over Casillas and into the net.
Spain 1 Holland 2 (Robben 52)
What a strike from Arjen Robben. Blind from the left paqssed the ball to Robben who controls brilliantly while in the air, turns inside Pique and shifts the ball out from under his feet before firing past Casillas.
Spain 1 Holland 3 (De Vrij 64)
Free kick is swung into the back post by Sneijder. Van Persie appears to collide with Casillas as a bunch of players throw themselves at the ball at the back post. One of those is De Vrij who scrambles the ball over the line. Casillas isn't happy and gets booked for his complaints.
Spain 1 Holland 4 (Van Persie 72)
The simple backpass by Spanish back line lead to the goal: Van Persie pounces, toes it away from Casillas' desperate lunge to retrieve the situation and slots it in to the empty net.
Spain 1 Holland 5
(Robben 80)
Robben gets his second goal here. Sneijder pings the ball wide to Robben who outpaces Ramos in a 40-yard sprint, first takes it wide and then shuffles through Casillas and waits for a while before bursting the net with a finish.
