No 'Start' button at the latest Windows 8 version

The latest Windows 8 “Consumer Preview” version (build 8220) is missing the Start button.
The Start button was first introduced in Windows 95, and since then it has been present in every version of Windows Operating System.

It is unclear at the moment: whether Microsoft intend to permanently remove the Start button, or is this feature only at the testing phase and Microsoft is looking to see what the reaction from users will be?
