Charlie Hebdo shooting

At least 12 people have been killed and 12 people were injured (5 of them in a critical condition) in a worst terrorist incident in France for 40 years. It happened at the Paris office of French satirical weekly newspaper Charlie Hebdo. The tragedy occurred on January 7 at around 11.30 local time (13.30 MSK).

Witnesses said that three gunmen were involved, and that they were seen armed with AK-47s, pump-action shotguns and grenade launchers. The attackers themselves are still on the run.

French media reported identifying three suspects in the attack. They are French citizens of Algerian origin the Sheriff Koichi, Said Koichi and Hamid Murad. They are aged 34, 32 and 18 and from a suburb outside Paris.

According to the newspaper Le Point, brothers Sheriff and Said Koichi in the summer of 2014 has returned from Syria, where they participated in hostilities. One of them in 2008, was sentenced in the case of operating in Paris of a terrorist cell. The third suspect was 18-year-old Hamdi Murad had no fixed place of residence was listed as a student in Reims.

All three, according to the TV station BFM, could be implicated in the organization in 2010 criminal operations for the liberation of a number of terrorists who were incarcerated in a French prison.
According to the newspaper Parisien, the police searched the apartment in Pantin, which could be the safe haven for terrorists. In addition, a search was also made in another Paris suburb - Gennevilliers.

The magazine's editor and four of France’s best-known satirical cartoonists were killed. Two police officers who patrolled the street were killed.

At least 10 of the killings took place in the initial attack inside the building, or died within minutes because of the seriousness of their injuries.
During the attack, the gunmen asked for specific people by name before killing them, according to a doctor who helped wounded patients and spoke with survivors of the attack. Dr. Gerald Kierzek said the gunmen divided the men from the women before opening fire. The shooting was not a random spray of bullets, he said, but more of a precision execution.

As the gunmen left in a black Citroën hatchback, they met with a police car which was part of the permanent protection given to the magazine after it was firebombed in 2011. The attackers got out of their vehicle and opened fire, killing two officers.
Journalist Martin Boudot was on a rooftop overlooking the building when two men clad in black and jumped out of a car and opened fire. He made a video of the shooting.

Video footage posted to social media showed armed gunmen running through the streets of Paris, shooting with automatic weapons and shouting "Allahu Akbar". According to an eye-witness, one of the gunmen shouted: "The Prophet is avenged."

A Charlie Hebdo cartoonist who survived the attack described how two "hooded and armed men" forced her to enter the code letting them into the magazine's offices.
The Telegraph, quoting one of the witnesses of the incident, Cedric Le Bechet reported that the attackers said that they are members of "Al Qaeda" operating in Yemen

According to him, just before the attack the attackers told to the people who passed the street require them to tell the media that they are members of a terrorist group.

"Tell the media that it has made" Al-Qaeda in Yemen "(" Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula ")," - said Le Bechet.
French President François Hollande (Francois Hollande) declared three days of mourning in memory of those killed in the attack on the editor of the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo.
